Frequently asked questions

How quickly should a cat lose weight?
Slowly. Rapid weight loss in cats risks hepatic lipidosis, a serious liver condition. Your vet should set the target and monitor progress rather than running this unsupervised.

Will my cat be hungry on a light food?
The increased dietary fibre is included specifically to help with satiety. If your cat still seems genuinely hungry, discuss portioning with your vet rather than simply feeding more.

Care

General Care & Storage
To get the most out of your Petszo delivery, please keep the following in mind:

  • Edibles: Keep food and treats tightly sealed and stored in a cool, dry environment.
  • Fabrics & Beds: Gently wipe clean or wash at 30ºC (always check the individual label first). Do not bleach.
  • Safety First: Regularly check toys and accessories for damage and remove them if broken.
  • Note: Always refer to the specific packaging for exact instructions.

Getting the most out of your Petszo order comes down to storing things properly and checking them regularly. Here's what matters.

Food and treats

Keep dry food tightly sealed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Resealing the bag or transferring it to an airtight container helps stop the fats going stale, which is the usual reason a dog or cat suddenly goes off a food they previously liked.

Opened wet food should be covered and refrigerated, and used within about 24 hours. Serve it at room temperature rather than straight from the fridge — cold food is noticeably less appealing to most pets and can be harder on sensitive stomachs.

Many treat pouches contain a small oxygen absorber sachet to keep the contents fresh. This isn't edible — remove and discard it before giving your pet the treat.

Beds, blankets and fabric items

Most fabric items can be gently wiped clean or machine washed at 30°C, but always check the individual care label first — padding and covers vary between products. Don't use bleach, as residue can irritate skin and paws.

Removable covers are worth washing more often than you'd think, particularly for pets with skin sensitivities.

Toys and chews

Check toys and accessories regularly for damage, and remove anything that's cracked, split or losing pieces. Small fragments are a genuine choking and blockage risk.

Always supervise your pet with chews and rawhide products, and take away any piece small enough to be swallowed whole. Match the chew size to your pet — a chew intended for a small dog won't last long with a large one, and creates more risk.

Harnesses, collars and leads

Check the fit periodically, especially on growing puppies and kittens. As a rule you should be able to slide two fingers comfortably under any strap — tighter risks rubbing, looser risks your pet backing out of it.

Inspect stitching, buckles and clips for wear, and replace anything showing damage before it fails on a walk.

Litter trays and small pet enclosures

Scoop clumping litter daily and top up as needed; a full change every 1–2 weeks is typical, more often with several cats sharing a tray. Clean the tray itself with hot water and mild detergent rather than strong disinfectants, some of which are toxic to cats.

For small pet enclosures, spot-clean soiled bedding daily and do a full change weekly.

Switching foods

Introduce any new food gradually over roughly 7–10 days, mixing increasing amounts into the current food. Sudden changes are one of the most common causes of digestive upset, and it's easily avoided.

Always check the product packaging. The guidance here is general — individual products carry their own storage, washing and feeding instructions, and those take precedence. If you're unsure about something, or your pet has a specific health condition, speak to your vet.

Delivery

How long will my order take to arrive?

We aim to dispatch orders within 1–7 business days of you placing them. Delivery time after dispatch depends on the shipping method chosen at checkout. You'll receive tracking details by email once your order is on its way, so you can follow its progress with the carrier.

Do you offer free delivery?

Yes — delivery is free on all UK orders over £59.99. Orders below that threshold are charged at the rate shown at checkout before you pay.

Where do you deliver?

We currently deliver within the United Kingdom only. We don't ship internationally at present. Please note that a small number of items are shipped from outside the UK and may take a little longer to arrive — this is noted on the individual product page where it applies.

What if my order is late?

Carrier delays occasionally happen, particularly around public holidays or in bad weather. If your order hasn't arrived within the expected timeframe, get in touch with your order number and we'll chase it. If a package is confirmed lost or significantly delayed by the courier, we'll send a replacement or issue a refund.

How do I track my order?

Once your order ships, we email you tracking details. Use these to check live delivery status directly with the carrier.

Returns & refunds

Can I return something if I change my mind?

Yes. Under UK consumer law you have 14 days from receiving your order to tell us you'd like to cancel, and a further 14 days to send the items back. Items need to be unused, in their original packaging and in the condition you received them. Return postage for change-of-mind returns is at your cost. Full details are in our Refund & Return Policy.

What if my order arrives damaged or incorrect?

We'll put it right. Under UK law you have up to 30 days to reject a faulty item for a full refund. For transit damage, contact us ideally within 48 hours of delivery with photos of both the item and the packaging. We cover return postage on faulty or incorrect items and will offer a full refund or a replacement.

Are there items I can't return?

For hygiene and safety reasons, opened or unsealed pet food and treats, used grooming products, personalised items and gift cards can't be returned unless they're faulty.

How long do refunds take?

Once we've received and inspected your return, we'll let you know whether it's approved. Approved refunds are processed within 14 days of us receiving the goods, back to your original payment method.

Can I cancel an order before it ships?

Yes — email support@petszo.co.uk with your order number any time before dispatch. If it's already gone out, you can return it under the 14-day change-of-mind period once it arrives.

Products

Do I need a prescription for veterinary diets?

No prescription is legally required in the UK to buy veterinary diet foods. However, these products are formulated for diagnosed conditions, so we strongly recommend speaking to your vet before starting one — and having your pet checked at least every six months while feeding it. If your pet's health worsens, seek veterinary advice straight away.

How should I switch my pet to a new food?

Gradually, over roughly 7–10 days. Mix a small amount of the new food into the current one and increase the proportion each day. Switching abruptly is a common cause of digestive upset.

How do I store pet food once it's open?

Keep dry food in a cool, dry place, ideally resealed or in an airtight container to stop the fats going stale. Opened wet food should go in the fridge and be used within about 24 hours. Always check the individual packaging, as some products have specific requirements.

Shipping & Returns

Last updated: 16 August 2026

This policy explains how we process, dispatch and deliver orders, and what to do if something goes wrong.

1. Delivery charges

Delivery is free on all UK orders over £59.99. For orders below that value, the delivery charge is calculated and shown at checkout before you complete your purchase — you'll never be charged an amount you haven't seen first.

2. Order processing and dispatch

We aim to dispatch orders within 1–7 business days of the order being placed. Business days are Monday to Friday, excluding UK public holidays.

Once your order has been processed you'll receive a confirmation email, followed by tracking details where available.

3. Delivery times

Time in transit after dispatch depends on the delivery method selected at checkout and your location. Total time to receive your order is therefore the dispatch window above plus the carrier's transit time.

A small number of products are shipped from outside the UK and take longer to arrive. Where this applies, it is stated clearly on the individual product page.

4. Delivery area

We currently deliver within the United Kingdom only. We do not offer international shipping at present.

Please note that a small number of bulky items cannot be delivered to Northern Ireland. Where this restriction applies, it is noted on the product page.

5. Tracking your order

Once your order ships, we'll email you tracking information where available. You can use this to check the live delivery status directly with the carrier.

6. Delays

Some delays are outside our control — carrier backlogs, severe weather, and public holidays being the most common. If your order hasn't arrived within the expected timeframe, please contact us with your order number and we'll investigate.

If a package is confirmed lost or significantly delayed by the courier, we will send a replacement or issue a refund.

7. Incorrect delivery addresses

Please check your delivery address carefully at checkout. If you spot a mistake, contact us immediately — we can usually correct it before dispatch. Once an order has shipped to an address you provided, we may not be able to recover it.

8. Contact us

For any questions about shipping or the status of an order:

Won't buy again

My cat quite likes the biscuits but they make her poo smell really badly so I had to stop giving them to her. Not sure they helped with weight loss either

Our favourite regular biscuits

Our cats love this food, we don't buy anything else if we can avoid it.

Helped with reducing weight

We have six cats, all were on the original Smilla. One of our cats became overweight, so we switched to this. And she’s lost quite a bit of weight since! All cats enjoy it just as much and has more protein content, so win win!

Great value and well liked by cats

My cat loves this food, she is a small cat with a tendency for putting on weight and this is great at keeping her on track.

Good value and my cats love it!

Only bought this as both PetsZo and Bitiba had sold out of my usual cat food (they seem to be the only ones that sell it).\n\nAfter much research, and the fact that I was getting very low on their food, I thought I'd give this a try - and saved £10!\n\nAt first my cats seemed to turn their nose up (the kibble pieces are bigger than they are used to) but by the end of the day they had eaten it.\n\nAfter that though, there was no stopping them! They now love it and polish it off as soon as they can.

Good value but my cat won’t eat it

I bought this instead of Iams Light and it looks fairly good and the price is great. But despite being a very unfussy eater, my cat won’t eat it. She will eat it mixed with wet food, perhaps that covers the smell.

all 3 cats love this

I have 3 cats 2 of which are overweight, I've been trying without success to bring their weight down. This is working slowly but even the one who doesn't need to lose weight loves it ( she just gets a little more than the others). Its a really good food for quick eaters like my girls that eat then bring food back up, because they have to crunch this so it slows them down,I've had no trouble with Sicky cats since using this.. All round great product and great value.

cheap and very good

My two cats are really into this dry food. They all stick around for dinner time whether I serve tinned food or dry food.

great, my cats have lost weight

First time round I ordered Smilla Poultry with my PetsZo points but my cats are also crazy about the Light version. They've all lost weight and the vet is very happy. Great value for money.

Good for picky eater who needs to lose some weight!

My cat is 1/2 bengal, and put on weight, but hated the other cat-foods we introduced to curb this. You have to introduce it slowly though, by mixing it with a food you know they like at first. Otherwise, most cats will find the change too abrupt and reject it (cats are not generally keen on change!).

Excellent value

A high-protein, high-volume, low-calorie dry food. Milton wolfs down his meals so there's no way I'd be able to feed him the brands that recommend 45g a day, but I can give him up to 80g a day (he's almost 5kg) of Smilla for around the same price. He loves it so much they even work in his treat/excercise ball!

Surprisingly good

I was very dubious trying this product - it is so cheap compared to other light foods I was using. My cat has been overweight for years (she started at 8.9kg when I first got her). As an ex-feral cat she gulped her food and often brought it back up. I eventually decided to give it a go. Firstly the kibbles are larger than most I've tried so she can't just swallow them and has to crunch them, also good for cleaning her teeth. Since using this she doesn't bring her meals back up and seems more content between meals too. Also her weight loss has improved (200g over the last 2 months bringing her down to 5kgs although I have had to weight and give the lowest portion for her weight. The vet is really pleased with her most recent progress. I had thought I would just have to return to more expensive products and that it wouldn't work or that she wouldn't like it but I think it's absolutely great (so does Bella) and I'm so glad I tried it. Will be ordering more.

it really works

My cats love this food. And thanks to careful portioning and the food ball, they've already lost some weight and can climb higher in the trees. We're definitely seeing progress with Smilla Light!

very good value for money

Our cats love it. We've been feeding this to them for a few years now and remain loyal customers.

My cats will not eat them!

I have 2 cats, one of which is very greedy, hungry and a little over weight. My other cat just has a normal appetite. Neither of them will eat them. I have left them down for a few hours and not fed them anything else and they will still not eat them. It might be something to do with the size of the biscuit which is a lot larger than other cat biscuits, but they just sniff them and walk off. I now have a 4kg bag of biscuits my cats will not eat.

L
Lily
nice big kibble

Finally my 2 BKH cats (7 months old) have stopped gorging themselves so much. They love this food. Ok, they do eat it all up, but more slowly. Only problem is that when they are chowing down, it tends to stink up the whole house.

K

Effective

I started my 6 cats on this 4 weeks ago. They all gained a lot of weight after being neutered, eating their usual amount of food (free feeding) even though they didn't need as much. They are losing weight at a nice rate, not too fast, not too slow. The ones troubled by hairballs also do not seem to be as affected anymore. I gave sme to my parents 4 cats and my sisters 2 and they all love it despite being fussy eaters, so now I have to order for everyone.

G

Greedy Cat

I have a greedy maine coon who likes to yawn and swallow without chewing & later brings his food back up. I've just bought these biscuits and he loves them and crunches up every biscuit and keeps his food down. I always weigh his food so hopefully he will lose weight too.

A big thumbs up!

We have a cat who, unfortunately, is overweight and has been on a diet for several years! We've tried many different makes of low calorie food but Smilla Light is the one that he really enjoys eating and the one that's given him a beautiful glossy coat, he's also losing weight and looks very trim! \n I would definitely recommend Smilla Light, to any one with an overweight puss, it's not only effective but it's healthy, low cost, alternative, to many other low calorie cat foods.
