Description

Cats shed year-round, and most of what ends up on your sofa is undercoat rather than topcoat. The FURminator reaches through the top layer to remove that loose undercoat without cutting or damaging the guard hairs above it.

Why it works

  • Reduces loose hair by up to 90% according to the manufacturer
  • Stainless steel comb gently removes undercoat while protecting the topcoat
  • Curved comfort edge follows the natural contours of your cat's head and body
  • Skin Guard® rounded corners glide over the skin, preventing irritation
  • FURejector® push button clears collected hair from the comb in one press
  • Can help prevent hairballs — less loose hair swallowed during grooming

Features & specification

  • For: short-haired cats, coat length up to 5cm
  • Ergonomic handle that sits comfortably in the hand
  • Protective strip for the tines when not in use
  • Recyclable packaging — 98.4% recyclability per EN 13430:2004 (check with your local authority)

Size guide

Variety Cat's weight Comb width Colour Suits breeds such as
Short Hair — Small up to 4.5kg 3.8cm Blue Siamese, Abyssinian, Scottish Fold
Short Hair — Large over 4.5kg 6.1cm Purple British Shorthair, Bengal, European Shorthair

How to use

Use for 10–20 minutes per week, and more frequently during shedding season. Work in the direction of hair growth, using light pressure — the tool does the work, and pressing harder risks scraping the skin.

Frequently asked questions

How does it differ from an ordinary brush?
A standard brush collects loose hair from the surface. The FURminator's fine stainless steel teeth reach through the topcoat into the undercoat, which is where most shed hair originates — that's why it pulls out noticeably more.

Will it hurt my cat?
Used with light pressure it shouldn't. The rounded corners and curved edge are designed to prevent skin contact. Avoid bony areas, keep sessions short, and stop if your cat becomes uncomfortable.

Does it genuinely help with hairballs?
Indirectly, yes. Hairballs form from hair swallowed during self-grooming, so removing loose undercoat before your cat does means less is ingested.

Which size should I choose?
By weight rather than breed — under 4.5kg takes the small comb, over 4.5kg the large. A wider comb covers a bigger cat faster.

Care

General Care & Storage
To get the most out of your Petszo delivery, please keep the following in mind:

  • Edibles: Keep food and treats tightly sealed and stored in a cool, dry environment.
  • Fabrics & Beds: Gently wipe clean or wash at 30ºC (always check the individual label first). Do not bleach.
  • Safety First: Regularly check toys and accessories for damage and remove them if broken.
  • Note: Always refer to the specific packaging for exact instructions.

Getting the most out of your Petszo order comes down to storing things properly and checking them regularly. Here's what matters.

Food and treats

Keep dry food tightly sealed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Resealing the bag or transferring it to an airtight container helps stop the fats going stale, which is the usual reason a dog or cat suddenly goes off a food they previously liked.

Opened wet food should be covered and refrigerated, and used within about 24 hours. Serve it at room temperature rather than straight from the fridge — cold food is noticeably less appealing to most pets and can be harder on sensitive stomachs.

Many treat pouches contain a small oxygen absorber sachet to keep the contents fresh. This isn't edible — remove and discard it before giving your pet the treat.

Beds, blankets and fabric items

Most fabric items can be gently wiped clean or machine washed at 30°C, but always check the individual care label first — padding and covers vary between products. Don't use bleach, as residue can irritate skin and paws.

Removable covers are worth washing more often than you'd think, particularly for pets with skin sensitivities.

Toys and chews

Check toys and accessories regularly for damage, and remove anything that's cracked, split or losing pieces. Small fragments are a genuine choking and blockage risk.

Always supervise your pet with chews and rawhide products, and take away any piece small enough to be swallowed whole. Match the chew size to your pet — a chew intended for a small dog won't last long with a large one, and creates more risk.

Harnesses, collars and leads

Check the fit periodically, especially on growing puppies and kittens. As a rule you should be able to slide two fingers comfortably under any strap — tighter risks rubbing, looser risks your pet backing out of it.

Inspect stitching, buckles and clips for wear, and replace anything showing damage before it fails on a walk.

Litter trays and small pet enclosures

Scoop clumping litter daily and top up as needed; a full change every 1–2 weeks is typical, more often with several cats sharing a tray. Clean the tray itself with hot water and mild detergent rather than strong disinfectants, some of which are toxic to cats.

For small pet enclosures, spot-clean soiled bedding daily and do a full change weekly.

Switching foods

Introduce any new food gradually over roughly 7–10 days, mixing increasing amounts into the current food. Sudden changes are one of the most common causes of digestive upset, and it's easily avoided.

Always check the product packaging. The guidance here is general — individual products carry their own storage, washing and feeding instructions, and those take precedence. If you're unsure about something, or your pet has a specific health condition, speak to your vet.

Delivery

How long will my order take to arrive?

We aim to dispatch orders within 1–7 business days of you placing them. Delivery time after dispatch depends on the shipping method chosen at checkout. You'll receive tracking details by email once your order is on its way, so you can follow its progress with the carrier.

Do you offer free delivery?

Yes — delivery is free on all UK orders over £59.99. Orders below that threshold are charged at the rate shown at checkout before you pay.

Where do you deliver?

We currently deliver within the United Kingdom only. We don't ship internationally at present. Please note that a small number of items are shipped from outside the UK and may take a little longer to arrive — this is noted on the individual product page where it applies.

What if my order is late?

Carrier delays occasionally happen, particularly around public holidays or in bad weather. If your order hasn't arrived within the expected timeframe, get in touch with your order number and we'll chase it. If a package is confirmed lost or significantly delayed by the courier, we'll send a replacement or issue a refund.

How do I track my order?

Once your order ships, we email you tracking details. Use these to check live delivery status directly with the carrier.

Returns & refunds

Can I return something if I change my mind?

Yes. Under UK consumer law you have 14 days from receiving your order to tell us you'd like to cancel, and a further 14 days to send the items back. Items need to be unused, in their original packaging and in the condition you received them. Return postage for change-of-mind returns is at your cost. Full details are in our Refund & Return Policy.

What if my order arrives damaged or incorrect?

We'll put it right. Under UK law you have up to 30 days to reject a faulty item for a full refund. For transit damage, contact us ideally within 48 hours of delivery with photos of both the item and the packaging. We cover return postage on faulty or incorrect items and will offer a full refund or a replacement.

Are there items I can't return?

For hygiene and safety reasons, opened or unsealed pet food and treats, used grooming products, personalised items and gift cards can't be returned unless they're faulty.

How long do refunds take?

Once we've received and inspected your return, we'll let you know whether it's approved. Approved refunds are processed within 14 days of us receiving the goods, back to your original payment method.

Can I cancel an order before it ships?

Yes — email support@petszo.co.uk with your order number any time before dispatch. If it's already gone out, you can return it under the 14-day change-of-mind period once it arrives.

Products

Do I need a prescription for veterinary diets?

No prescription is legally required in the UK to buy veterinary diet foods. However, these products are formulated for diagnosed conditions, so we strongly recommend speaking to your vet before starting one — and having your pet checked at least every six months while feeding it. If your pet's health worsens, seek veterinary advice straight away.

How should I switch my pet to a new food?

Gradually, over roughly 7–10 days. Mix a small amount of the new food into the current one and increase the proportion each day. Switching abruptly is a common cause of digestive upset.

How do I store pet food once it's open?

Keep dry food in a cool, dry place, ideally resealed or in an airtight container to stop the fats going stale. Opened wet food should go in the fridge and be used within about 24 hours. Always check the individual packaging, as some products have specific requirements.

We currently deliver within the United Kingdom only. We do not offer international shipping at present.

Please note that a small number of bulky items cannot be delivered to Northern Ireland. Where this restriction applies, it is noted on the product page.

5. Tracking your order

Some delays are outside our control — carrier backlogs, severe weather, and public holidays being the most common. If your order hasn't arrived within the expected timeframe, please contact us with your order number and we'll investigate.

If a package is confirmed lost or significantly delayed by the courier, we will send a replacement or issue a refund.

7. Incorrect delivery addresses

Doesn't do the job

I’ve been thrilled about the product as I saw good reviews. My cat is shedding a lot and I really thought is gonna do “magic” but nothing is coming out of his fur, I had to use the old glove that I had to manage to brush my cat. 🥺 \nSo I’m very disappointed. Definitely not worth the money.

Wow!

I've had many brushes and combs for my cat over the years but they where always cheap ones and never really satisfied me on hair retrieval, this one is amazing the amount of hair I got out my little darling in the space of 10 minutes was the same I'd get out of him using older brushes over a 6 month time period. An over flowing handful of undercoat. He looks so sleek and delicious now 🥰

Amazingly good!

I have 2 short haired cats & both seem to be continually shedding. I thought a shedding comb and a zoom groom was a good combination but the furminator is much better. Both cats accepted it, it was so easy to use and in just a few minutes, I'd collected a fair bit of hair. I can now stroke them with out getting my hands covered in loose hair.

Good but take care

I brought this brush last week. We adopted two long haired cats a few years ago. Both never been brushed. I use a big standard brush on both but neither really enjoyed it as they weren't use to it.\n In time they were OK with it, but only for 5 mins or so. The furminator is quick and takes off a lot of fur especially on their bushy tails. I will only use for 5 mins once a week though, incase it thins the hair too much. It's common sense really. It's to help with hairballs hopefully?

Friction causes Static

Ensure to brush VERY GENTLY the metal can scratch! It does remove some hair but I'm more concerned with the static left behind! \ndo Cats need to be feeling static electric shocks simply for being brushed? not sure why this was an an oversight when our felines well being is our main priority so this is overpriced for your cat to be left static :/

Clumsy shape

Looking at cat owner’s photos and having been recommended by the seller to buy the large Furminator, I have a British Shorthair male cat that weighs 16lb, I bought one. The size is bigger than I expected and quite heavy. The shape of the handle is uncomfortable and would be better if straight with the anti slip ridges. I wish I’d bought the smaller one as I have smallish hands. It gets rid of cat hair but it also leaves a lot of residual hair on the cat. I used another brush to remove it. :(

Removes their undercoat - avoid

I have a medium fur length cat does remove a huge amount of fur - too much.\nIt’s also very clear that it removes the soft undercoat they use to regulate their body temperature. I used this properly once and only once, it took weeks for her fur to grow back healthily.\nI use a cheap little paddle brush now once a week paired with anti hairball food and she loves the attention of being groomed like a little princess!

They love it!

Enjoyment to the point that when I thought I’d finished Furminating, my older boy kept nudging my hands for more Furmination! So much purring and so much fur removal!

This is a razor, not a comb

This is a harsh and quite uncomfortable experience for my (short haired) cats who otherwise enjoy being groomed. This doesn't comb out loose fur - it drags and cuts off attached fur, giving the cat a haphazard haircut. What's worse is it cuts off mostly undercoat, reducing the cat's ability to thermoregulate. Can't understand its popularity. Might be okay for long haired, badly matted cats. Otherwise, don't waste your money.

Good but.....

I bought the short hair version and the long hair version as I have a rag doll and BSH. However the only difference is the colour of the eject button. So my advice is - good product but if you have different breeds you don't need to buy the different products as they are the same!!

Furminator Deshedding Tool Large short Hair Cuts for cat

This excellent Furminator deshedding tool purchased some months back is very much appreciated as it helps to reduce the amount of hair that would otherwise get ingested and cause hairballs. Our boy loves his coat combed whatever the weather but is showing signs of loving it more now weather is warming up.I recommend buying this helpful grooming tool.

Amazing product

This arrived last night, first time using it on my girls and they loved it! One of my girls isn't too keen on being brushed but she happily sat still for a short while and the amount of hair this removes is insanely good! They were so relaxed after and their coats were gleaming. Sure it shall help reduce the amount of hairballs as well

Amazing!

Love, love, love it! For the first time in five years my cat sat in my lap and actually let me brush his fur, purring all the time! Got a good amount of hair too!

This is the cats whiskers!

Bought this tool upon recommendation from my niece in the USA. Yes, it is more expensive than other brushes but then it does exactly what is says! It eliminates fur!! My two young cats both let me brush them with the new brush, despite the struggles with other brushes, and are looking sleek. I chose the larger brush as they are both big lads and it's perfect.

FURminator - 6yrs worth of fluff in one go !

My cat likes being brushed, but only quickly & easily resorts in biting. I looked at the FURminator & thought she would not like it, but she is a Russian Blue cross & seems to have a lot of fluffy hair as a second coat & suffered with hairballs. However due to this problem I thought it was worth a try, her first brush resulted in a huge ball of hair, 6yrs worth of fluff ! She still will bite when being brushed, but does like it & it has stopped the hairballs. Definitely with the risk of injury !

Great Value

This tool is wonderful ! It gets right down to the skin and removes much more hair than my very old one does. The cats love it too, especially Ebony who suffers quite a lot from hairballs.

Bold patches

I am going to give up using this brush. It turns out it is too hursh. I just realised my cat is left with bold ( and most likely painful) patches. I was initially pleased to see so much hair coming off my cat. She was not happy and growling but I carried on until I realised why she was so upset....
