Frequently asked questions

Is wet or dry food better for a diabetic cat?
Wet food is naturally lower in carbohydrate and higher in moisture, which is why many vets favour it for diabetic cats. Your vet will advise what suits your cat's individual case and treatment plan.

How many pouches a day will my cat need?
A 4kg cat needs around 245g daily, which is roughly two and a half 100g portions. Use the feeding table above as your starting point.

Should I feed at set times?
Meal timing often matters for cats on insulin. Your vet will tell you how feeding should be scheduled around injections — don't change the routine without discussing it first.

Which variety should I choose?
The Mixed Pack gives you all six flavours, which is the sensible way to find out what your cat prefers before committing to single-flavour packs.

Can I feed this alongside the dry Integra Protect Diabetes food?
Both are formulated for the same purpose, so combining them is more straightforward than mixing in a standard food. Check portion sizes with your vet so total intake stays correct.

Care

General Care & Storage
To get the most out of your Petszo delivery, please keep the following in mind:

  • Edibles: Keep food and treats tightly sealed and stored in a cool, dry environment.
  • Fabrics & Beds: Gently wipe clean or wash at 30ºC (always check the individual label first). Do not bleach.
  • Safety First: Regularly check toys and accessories for damage and remove them if broken.
  • Note: Always refer to the specific packaging for exact instructions.

Getting the most out of your Petszo order comes down to storing things properly and checking them regularly. Here's what matters.

Food and treats

Keep dry food tightly sealed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Resealing the bag or transferring it to an airtight container helps stop the fats going stale, which is the usual reason a dog or cat suddenly goes off a food they previously liked.

Opened wet food should be covered and refrigerated, and used within about 24 hours. Serve it at room temperature rather than straight from the fridge — cold food is noticeably less appealing to most pets and can be harder on sensitive stomachs.

Many treat pouches contain a small oxygen absorber sachet to keep the contents fresh. This isn't edible — remove and discard it before giving your pet the treat.

Beds, blankets and fabric items

Most fabric items can be gently wiped clean or machine washed at 30°C, but always check the individual care label first — padding and covers vary between products. Don't use bleach, as residue can irritate skin and paws.

Removable covers are worth washing more often than you'd think, particularly for pets with skin sensitivities.

Toys and chews

Check toys and accessories regularly for damage, and remove anything that's cracked, split or losing pieces. Small fragments are a genuine choking and blockage risk.

Always supervise your pet with chews and rawhide products, and take away any piece small enough to be swallowed whole. Match the chew size to your pet — a chew intended for a small dog won't last long with a large one, and creates more risk.

Harnesses, collars and leads

Check the fit periodically, especially on growing puppies and kittens. As a rule you should be able to slide two fingers comfortably under any strap — tighter risks rubbing, looser risks your pet backing out of it.

Inspect stitching, buckles and clips for wear, and replace anything showing damage before it fails on a walk.

Litter trays and small pet enclosures

Scoop clumping litter daily and top up as needed; a full change every 1–2 weeks is typical, more often with several cats sharing a tray. Clean the tray itself with hot water and mild detergent rather than strong disinfectants, some of which are toxic to cats.

For small pet enclosures, spot-clean soiled bedding daily and do a full change weekly.

Switching foods

Introduce any new food gradually over roughly 7–10 days, mixing increasing amounts into the current food. Sudden changes are one of the most common causes of digestive upset, and it's easily avoided.

Always check the product packaging. The guidance here is general — individual products carry their own storage, washing and feeding instructions, and those take precedence. If you're unsure about something, or your pet has a specific health condition, speak to your vet.

Delivery

How long will my order take to arrive?

We aim to dispatch orders within 1–7 business days of you placing them. Delivery time after dispatch depends on the shipping method chosen at checkout. You'll receive tracking details by email once your order is on its way, so you can follow its progress with the carrier.

Do you offer free delivery?

Yes — delivery is free on all UK orders over £59.99. Orders below that threshold are charged at the rate shown at checkout before you pay.

Where do you deliver?

We currently deliver within the United Kingdom only. We don't ship internationally at present. Please note that a small number of items are shipped from outside the UK and may take a little longer to arrive — this is noted on the individual product page where it applies.

What if my order is late?

Carrier delays occasionally happen, particularly around public holidays or in bad weather. If your order hasn't arrived within the expected timeframe, get in touch with your order number and we'll chase it. If a package is confirmed lost or significantly delayed by the courier, we'll send a replacement or issue a refund.

How do I track my order?

Once your order ships, we email you tracking details. Use these to check live delivery status directly with the carrier.

Returns & refunds

Can I return something if I change my mind?

Yes. Under UK consumer law you have 14 days from receiving your order to tell us you'd like to cancel, and a further 14 days to send the items back. Items need to be unused, in their original packaging and in the condition you received them. Return postage for change-of-mind returns is at your cost. Full details are in our Refund & Return Policy.

What if my order arrives damaged or incorrect?

We'll put it right. Under UK law you have up to 30 days to reject a faulty item for a full refund. For transit damage, contact us ideally within 48 hours of delivery with photos of both the item and the packaging. We cover return postage on faulty or incorrect items and will offer a full refund or a replacement.

Are there items I can't return?

For hygiene and safety reasons, opened or unsealed pet food and treats, used grooming products, personalised items and gift cards can't be returned unless they're faulty.

How long do refunds take?

Once we've received and inspected your return, we'll let you know whether it's approved. Approved refunds are processed within 14 days of us receiving the goods, back to your original payment method.

Can I cancel an order before it ships?

Yes — email support@petszo.co.uk with your order number any time before dispatch. If it's already gone out, you can return it under the 14-day change-of-mind period once it arrives.

Products

Do I need a prescription for veterinary diets?

No prescription is legally required in the UK to buy veterinary diet foods. However, these products are formulated for diagnosed conditions, so we strongly recommend speaking to your vet before starting one — and having your pet checked at least every six months while feeding it. If your pet's health worsens, seek veterinary advice straight away.

How should I switch my pet to a new food?

Gradually, over roughly 7–10 days. Mix a small amount of the new food into the current one and increase the proportion each day. Switching abruptly is a common cause of digestive upset.

How do I store pet food once it's open?

Keep dry food in a cool, dry place, ideally resealed or in an airtight container to stop the fats going stale. Opened wet food should go in the fridge and be used within about 24 hours. Always check the individual packaging, as some products have specific requirements.

This policy explains how we process, dispatch and deliver orders, and what to do if something goes wrong.

1. Delivery charges

Delivery is free on all UK orders over £59.99. For orders below that value, the delivery charge is calculated and shown at checkout before you complete your purchase — you'll never be charged an amount you haven't seen first.

2. Order processing and dispatch

We aim to dispatch orders within 1–7 business days of the order being placed. Business days are Monday to Friday, excluding UK public holidays.

Once your order has been processed you'll receive a confirmation email, followed by tracking details where available.

3. Delivery times

Time in transit after dispatch depends on the delivery method selected at checkout and your location. Total time to receive your order is therefore the dispatch window above plus the carrier's transit time.

A small number of products are shipped from outside the UK and take longer to arrive. Where this applies, it is stated clearly on the individual product page.

4. Delivery area

We currently deliver within the United Kingdom only. We do not offer international shipping at present.

Please note that a small number of bulky items cannot be delivered to Northern Ireland. Where this restriction applies, it is noted on the product page.

5. Tracking your order

Once your order ships, we'll email you tracking information where available. You can use this to check the live delivery status directly with the carrier.

6. Delays

Some delays are outside our control — carrier backlogs, severe weather, and public holidays being the most common. If your order hasn't arrived within the expected timeframe, please contact us with your order number and we'll investigate.

If a package is confirmed lost or significantly delayed by the courier, we will send a replacement or issue a refund.

7. Incorrect delivery addresses

Please check your delivery address carefully at checkout. If you spot a mistake, contact us immediately — we can usually correct it before dispatch. Once an order has shipped to an address you provided, we may not be able to recover it.

Game-changing

Our cat has been really miserable since he was diagnosed with diabetes, because he doesn’t like either of the brands offered by our vet. BUT THEN WE DISCOVERED THIS BRAND! It’s truly game-changing — he loves it, miaows frantically with excitement as it’s being served, and cleans his bowl! His happiness is wonderful to see (and I am happy not to be throwing out uneaten food).

Great product

My cat is a very fussy eater and has just been diagnosed with diabetes. I was worried about transitioning from her regilr food to this, but she absolutely loved it! Thank you

My cat loves this food

My almost 17 year old cat was diagnosed with diabetes over a year ago so i had to change his food from renal. \nHe's also on Senvelgo oral medication for diabetes and not insulin.\nHe has loved this food from the get go. His condition has been stable so I'm very happy. The only thing i will say is that apart from the Turkey flavour variety, the other flavours do seem to have quite a lot of gristle type lumps which he won't eat. Turkey has hardly any. If he's happy, I'm happy! And it's good value.

He eats it without any fuss.

Furry friends can be picky, and when switching to diabetic food, I was already fearing the worst. But every variety is eaten without any fuss.

My newly diagnosed cat loves it!

I have an almost 16 year old cat who's recently been diagnosed with Diabetes. Before this, he had some mild gastro issues so was eating the same brand but for Gastro troubles. I made the swap to Integra Diabetic food and he still loves it!\nI'm hoping that his latest curve test will show good results in his fructosamine and glucose levels. \nThe rabbit and beef flavours do have some chunky, gristly bits in them which i have to remove. But the salmon is absolutely fine! I recommend this brand!

Really helped with my cats diabetis control

After diagnosis my Vet & I struggled for months to get my cats diabetes stabilised. After changing to a diabetic diet, it soon settled down and I've been using this & 3 others ever since. He likes it and always clears the bowl. "Smilla" is very similar but currently only 1 flavour, I like that there is variety with this one. (Other diabetic foods from PetsZo are "Concept for Life" & "Kattovit" Tins). I use them all so if one is out of stock there's always something else.

My fussy cat loves it!

New to diabetic cat food and she's the fussiest cat ever!\nAfter reading other reviews thought would try Salmon Integra protect.\nShe loves it..and hoping at next vet visit her glucose levels will be lower.\nGoing to try other flavours too.

Wonderful!

My cat absolutely loves it and she’s truly a picky eater when it comes to anything that’s not dry food.

One Happy Fussy Cat!

My Cat has just been diagnosed with Diabetes and I was thinking, oh crap, she's proper fussy about food, what the hell am I going to feed Her on? But these, an absolute miracle. I don't even have to clean the Bowl as She's licked it clean!

God send

Our diabetic cat struggled with his food to begin with but he loves Integra. the other 2 healthy cats love it too and lick the bowls clean!\nThe rabbit is a big winner, they go mad for it!\nits like a thick meaty pate consistency which cuts into chunks easily or can be mashed up with a fork if your cat prefers that.\nValue for money is great. this is a constant in our basket and has helped control our cats sugars.

Medical substitute

At first, I was hesitant to switch from medication to food, but now I’m absolutely thrilled. \n,The results are fantastic with my tomcat, and he enjoys eating it too. We can completely do without injections.

Is happily devoured

Our tomcat has developed diabetes, and he really enjoys eating this food. It has a subtle but appealing smell. Based on the ingredients, it also convinces his owner. As for whether or how well it helps to lower his blood sugar, I can't say yet, as we've only recently received the diabetes diagnosis and a second blood test is still pending.

Tasty

My boys, one a Type 2 diabetic and the other tagging along, love all the varieties except the rabbit. Not even from another brand. The cats are BARFed at least once a day, and in between or when the fresh meat runs out, they get Animonda trays. They particularly prefer the salmon tray. The quality is very good.

Chicken and salmon flavour are great

Chicken and salmon are great, my cat loves them, they have a pate texture so theyre easy for him to eat too! The beef and rabbit have more of a grizzly texture, in the beef one i had to take big chunks of hard rind out and those flavours cause my cat sickness and diarrhea which is really what you dont want when your cat is on insulin! 4* due to that, not sure if any one else has had this problem but definitely recommend the chicken and salmon as i saw a real improvement in his glucose curves.

Best diabetic cat food

This is the best diabetic cat food I have tried and I've tried them all .my cat us nearly 19 and turned diabetic in the summer after trying other brands that upset her stomach found this and gave it a go she loves it doesn't upset her stomach would recommend it

R

My cats eat the 100g tins but refuse the 200g tins- weird!

The chicken and beef are devoured in the 100g tins, but when I tried to reduce the costs and buy the larger 200g tins, they sniff it and walk away!\nThe consistency and texture varies visibly between the two and there is a greater percentage of white fatty deposits in the 200g tins. \n\nI have no way of knowing the contents but my cats sure seem to be able to tell that something is different. SO far I throw away more than they eat so the 200g tins are not a cost saving- be warned.

Blood sugar levels demonstrably decrease!

My Maine Coon tomcat was unfortunately diagnosed with pancreatitis/diabetes as a consequence. \n,What can you do as an owner, in addition to using "good insulin," to possibly lower the values? \n,I’ve read and tried a lot. \n,It doesn’t have to be pure diabetes food, but a combination of sugar-free regular food with an NFE value below the threshold and Animonda Integra yields good results! \n,Not every variety is necessarily well received, though... But it’s a step in the right direction.

S
Silke Brandenstein
The cat is doing much better! Great food! No more insulin needed!

Our cat (15) suddenly developed diabetes a year ago. We noticed it due to excessive thirst, a massive increase in urine output, extreme weight loss, etc. \n,Then the diagnosis from the vet came quickly. Her levels were sometimes over 500 and no longer measurable. We changed her food, and since we've been consistently feeding her Integra Protect Adult Diabetes, her levels have been in the normal range. We no longer have to inject insulin! Her levels remain stable with the food, around 100. So, it's perfect!

Diabetes Rabbit, Salmon, Poultry, Beef

The new flavours are very well received by a diabetic cat, and her values are very good as a result. It's great that there are now several varieties available. I can definitely recommend them! I buy them regularly!
